FIT: Extra memory is ideal for storing digital photos, music and more.
Newer Technology has introduced a great accessory for Apple’s popular Mac Mini desktop computer: the miniStack external hard drive, ideal for storing documents, music, photos, videos or most any digital file.
The drive is compatible with any Mac, notebook or Windows PC but is an ideal partner with the Mac Mini. The dimensions (6.5 by 6.5 by 1.5 inches), style and look of the enclosure make it a perfect match because the two can stack together.
It’s the ideas portable external hard drive for digital photographers and is available in sizes up to a 750 GB capacity. The 250GB unit I tested had three FireWire 400 ports and four USB 2.0 high-speed ports.
I had no trouble using them simultaneously with multiple scanners, card readers or most any other peripheral.
Once plugged in and switched on, the drive was recognized by both Macs and PCs. The drive is quiet, and an internal temperature-controlled fan helped it stay cool.
A selection of shareware and freeware software is was included.
The full line of miniStacks is available at newertech.com/ministack, with prices ranging from the 80GB at $119.99 to the 750GB at $495.
A recent addition to this line is the miniStack enclosure kit. With this kit, users get the USB and Firewire 400 ports and then add their own hard drives. This gives the option of shopping around for a hard drive that best fits your needs. The 0GB kit includes the same software package on the complete hard drive package and sells for $84.95. |
