| Other World Computing and NewerTech see carryover sales in upgrade products. |
DMN Newswire--2006-10-23--Apple Computer, Inc. has reported bigger profit and revenue for its most recent quarter, pointing to a 30% jump in sales of Macintosh computers from the same quarter last year. Revenue rose over 31% and profit was up 27% over the same period in the prior year. According to the Washington Post, executives at Apple indicated in a conference call on October 18 that there is an increased interest in Macintosh computers now that the units use an Intel chip. Although use of Intel chips was first announced at Macworld Conference and Expo in January, last quarter was the first complete period during which Macs offered the new technology. With the increased interest in new Intel-based Macs, there is an overall increased market for peripherals and upgrades to boost those systems to maximum performance. Other World Computing (OWC) was the first independent developer to offer Apple-qualified memory upgrades for the recent Intel-based Mac Pro Quad Xeon towers. Available through OWC's online retail site www.MacSales.com, the OWC RAM has allowed new Mac owners to upgrade their machines with Apple-Qualified memory at independent prices - getting maximum Apple speed and performance at a minimum third-party price.
"Other World Computing has been providing upgrades for Macs since 1988, from memory to hard drives to external storage solutions. Based on sales of upgrade products and accessories at our online retail site, MacSales.com, it really suggests that Apple's iPod and Mac sales are going to continue to be strong," says OWC Sales Manager Jen Soule. October also marks the five-year anniversary of Apple's launch of the iPod. Sales are still strong, with over 67 million sold to date over the five-year lifespan of the iPod. Newer Technology, Inc. (NewerTech), which provides replacement batteries for iPods and Apple laptops, has watched the growth of the iPod in the consumer conscious over all other MP3 players due to the integrated software, hardware, and software. |
