DMN Newswire--2006-10-23--Apple Computer, Inc. has reported bigger profit and revenue for its most recent quarter, pointing to a 30% jump in sales of Macintosh computers from the same quarter last year. Revenue rose over 31% and profit was up 27% over the same period in the prior year.

According to the Washington Post, executives at Apple indicated in a conference call on October 18 that there is an increased interest in Macintosh computers now that the units use an Intel chip. Although use of Intel chips was first announced at Macworld Conference and Expo in January, last quarter was the first complete period during which Macs offered the new technology.

With the increased interest in new Intel-based Macs, there is an overall increased market for peripherals and upgrades to boost those systems to maximum performance.

October also marks the five-year anniversary of Apple's launch of the iPod. Sales are still strong, with over 67 million sold to date over the five-year lifespan of the iPod.
