October 19, 2006 (IDG News Service) -- Newer Technology Inc.s MiniStack is an external FireWire/USB 2.0 designed to fit underneath a Mac Mini. The company now offers an "add your own hard drive" version bundled with software for $84.95.

The MiniStack measures 6.5 by 6.5 by 1.5 in. and adds two FireWire 400 ports and three USB ports. While it's designed to suit the Mac Mini, it's compatible with other Macs as well. Newer sells the system in capacities from 80GB to 750GB, as well as a "0GB" kit in which you can install your own 3.5-in. hard disk drive.

That system is $74.95, but Newer is now optionally offering the 0GB drive bundled with Intech HD Speedtools and EMC Retrospect backup software for $84.95. The kit also comes with FireWire and USB 2.0 connecting cables.
